Dr Andrew McGregor is a Consultant Haematologist specialising in haematopathology, myeloproliferative neoplasms, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, general and liaison haematology, and GP advice and guidance.
Andrew qualified from the University of Leeds in 2007. After working as a house officer and senior house officer in London and Sydney he returned to Newcastle for core medical and specialist haematology training. He has an interest in laboratory and diagnostic haematology having completed a year out of programme in the Northern England Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service (NEHODS) and a post-graduate diploma in genomic medicine.
Andrew also has an interest in medical education having completed a post graduate certificate and is chair of the British Society for Haematology education committee and chair of the Northern Region Haematology Group (NRHG). He was leader for the SHO grade doctors in the Northern Centre for Cancer Care (2019-2021) and trainer for scientists on the HSST programme as well as being educational and clinical supervisor to doctors in training of all grades. He is an assessor in the bone marrow trephine NEQAS scheme.
Clinically he takes an interest in myeloproliferative and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia . He sits on the UK NCRI MPN and CML subgroup. The majority of his time is spent within NEHODS contributing to the region’s haematopathology diagnostic services. He is co- lead for the NEHODS service. He represents haematology on the Blood Sciences and Laboratory Medicine Executive Board. Andrew was made associate clinical lecturer at Newcastle University in 2018.
