We are delighted to be part of this documentary series which follows our incredible staff through a shift, from world class medics saving and transforming lives, to the support teams who make it possible.
Series one aired in January 2022, the six-part series featured a returning cast from porters to surgeons, dental nurses to sewing room ladies, as they all pull together to deliver excellent care with their unique warmth and sense of humour.

Background to the show
After a lot of discussion and planning and as the country came out of lockdown last summer (2021), we granted production company Curve Media access to our hospitals and our staff and patients as part of an exciting new documentary series they were making for Channel 4.
The filming schedule was very tight and the brief was to follow staff – both inside and outside of work – as they prepared for a busy shift.
Being in a pandemic, a key priority for us has always been caring for COVID-19 patients on dedicated wards and making sure we had stringent infection prevention control (IPC) measures in place to keep our staff, patients and visitors safe.
The small team involved in filming rigidly followed the same safety measures as our staff wearing the appropriate PPE and doing regular testing throughout the time they were with us.
And while we were feeling (and still continue to feel) the pressures of this pandemic, this series is deliberately not about COVID-19 – it’s about our people and a warm-hearted look at what else goes on behind the scenes at a busy hospital trust.
We hope it captures the flavour – and diversity – of what we do across Newcastle Hospitals and gives you a brief insight into our NHS family. Our thanks to everyone involved – both in front and behind the camera.
Chief Executive Dame Jackie Daniel said: “We wanted to show the very best of Newcastle in a warm and engaging way – focussing on our world class clinicians as well as our extremely valued support staff who are all equally important in caring for our patients.
“I’m very grateful to all of the staff and patients who gave their time and expertise to help us make this programme.”
