Hassan joined Newcastle Hospitals in February 2025 and brings over a decade of NHS leadership experience, having led large-scale, high-risk transformation programmes, including the NHS Covid pass service and major projects within the future NHS workforce programme. A passionate advocate for digital innovation, Hassan has an interest in using cutting-edge technologies, such as AI, to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
Hassan’s career spans 25 years across the NHS, higher education, and the private sector, with expertise in strategic planning, commercial negotiations, and digital transformation. As deputy chair of the board and pro chancellor at Northumbria University, he contributed to the development of the university’s strategy and key initiatives like the £300m CHASE health education and research centre.
Hassan is committed to fostering a positive organisational culture to enhance care and his leadership in promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, as well as extensive experience in navigating complex environments, provides invaluable insight and independent expertise to the board.
Hassan is married with three children and lives in Newcastle. Outside work, he is a football coach of two football teams, a member of the inclusion advisory board at Northumberland Football Association, and enjoys spending time in the gym and travelling.
