Accountability
The Programme will report to the Trust Executive Oversight Group for the Climate Emergency through 6 monthly reporting (June, December)
Responsibilities
- The Programme will support the Trust green gym and green social prescribing through grants for equipment and materials; longer-term commitments, such as staff or ongoing treatment costs, are currently out of scope from general funds.
- The Programme will seek to secure additional funding streams for specific and relevant programmes of work, which may include longer-term costs.
- The Programme will promote Trust green gym and green social prescribing through both Trust internal communications and externally, through, for instance, partner organisations and social media. Programme work will also be promoted through the website and a bi-annual newsletter.
- The Long View Project’s support for acquisition and/or restoration of land will, as its primary focus, enhance biodiversity and provide climate mitigation but will also complement re-naturing / re-wilding work of partner organisations, connect or enhance existing biodiversity hot spots and provide venues for both green gym and green social prescribing activities.
- Land acquisitions and restorations, supported by The Long View Project will provide an opportunity for baseline and follow-up biodiversity and climate impact monitoring – the Programme will collaborate with academic partners to fulfil this potential.
- Fundraising, grant allocation and spend will be overseen by the advisory group who will convene at least once every 6 months. The group will be deemed to be quorate with 2 attendees (excluding the programme lead).
- Where income does not stipulate a specific use, funds will be split, equally, between Themes 1 (People) and 2 (Place).
- Land purchases supported by The Long View Project will be undertaken through appropriate management arrangements. These arrangements will recognise that:
- The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust cannot bear liability for land purchased under The Long View Project
- Agreements about legacy management, will include:
- A statement of intent at the time of land acquisition as to how that land will be used
- A statement on the use of a covenant on the inalienable right to use of this land (as per the Statement of Intent) should the recipient of funding cease to operate
- An understanding of legacy management costs for acquired land should the recipient of funding cease to operate; these legacy management costs will need to be ring-fenced within the recipients programme but, through appropriate choice of the land acquired and its intended use, will aim to be minimised in order that funds can be optimally utilised for its major themes.
