We provide an annual review service which is available to all patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
The service is a 40 minute consultation with a nurse, and gives patients the chance to discuss any problems or concerns that they have about their condition.
What happens in the annual review?
The annual review service gives patients a chance to work with a nurse to discuss and assess their condition in relation to their whole body and lifestyle. In other words, the review takes a ‘holistic’ approach.
The assessment looks at:
- the individual risk of other conditions the patient may have, such as cardiovascular disease or osteoporosis
- issues such as functional problems – problems with activities in daily living
- the effects of the condition on the patient’s quality of life
- the possible need for referral to other medical and care professionals.
A medication and disease activity assessment is also carried out.
The nurse will give patients information and education about their condition tailored to their individual needs. The nurse and patient also agree on a plan of care, which is reviewed every year.
