Dr Ally Speight is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Newcastle Hospitals and specialises in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
A graduate of Girton College, Cambridge (Natural Sciences, Genetics), Dr Speight completed his MBBS, with honours, at Newcastle University in 2005. He was awarded an MD by Newcastle University for his research in metabolic signalling pathways in Crohn’s disease in 2015.
His clinical interests are in IBD, therapeutic drug monitoring, coeliac disease and GI complications from oncology treatments, whilst his research interests include therapeutics in IBD and immune oncology associated colitis.
Research
He is a Principal Investigator on several commercial trials and investigator lead, portfolio studies in IBD. He was awarded an NIHR Greenshoots award in 2017 and is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology IBD Committee, recently helping to draft the BSG position statement on immune inhibitor checkpoint colitis.
