Keeping information about you private
We need to keep information about you so that we can look after you. Information like:
- Who you live with
- Who else looks after you
- Reports about your health
- Photographs taken in hospital
- Results of tests and scans
A lot of this information is kept on computers and some in your medical records if you have some.
What you need to know
- Wherever we keep the information, we keep it private.
- People working in the hospital looking after you can use the information to plan your treatment.
- If we use your information to teach people or learn new things about an illness, we will remove your name, age and where you live so no one will know it is about you.
- You have the right to know what we do with your information and the right to look at your information.
- The person treating you cannot tell anyone about what you say to them, unless they are worried about your safety, or the safety of someone else.

The hospital also has a member of staff you can speak to called the Data Protection Officer whose job it is to help ensure information about you is kept private.
