Musculoskeletal services is responsible for the management of orthopaedic and rheumatology specialisms providing services at both the Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Orthopaedics
Our orthopaedic department offers a wide range of specialist orthopaedic services. We care for people from across the region and also offer specialist treatment and care for patients across the country.
We offer orthopaedic services on both the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital, with treatment and surgery for:
- Paediatric orthopaedics
- Spinal surgery
- Upper limb, including shoulders and elbows
- Surgery to the feet and ankles
- Hip and knee surgery
- Soft tissue knee treatments
The department constantly strives to give patients the most up to date treatment and surgical options. Many of our consultants are involved in research and developments to improve patient care and outcomes.
Rheumatology
Our rheumatologists have an international reputation for the care and treatment they provide for people diagnosed with a wide range of conditions that affect the joints and surrounding tissues.
These include:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Connective tissue disease
- Auto immune disease
- Ankylosing spondylitis
- Psoriatic arthritis
Our clinics provide blood monitoring for biologic medications and the Freeman Hospital is a N.I.C.E. Assessment for Biologic Drug Therapies.
