Professor Anthony DeSoyza is a honorary consultant physician and senior lecturer in respiratory medicine
Biography
Professor Anthony DeSoyza trained in Scotland and has worked in Newcastle for over 15 years completing his PhD in lung infections and higher specialist training in lung diseases in the North East.
He is a senior lecturer in Newcastle University and works at Freeman Hospital. He runs clinics on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
Professor DeSoyza is medical lead for one of busiest lung trials unit in the UK where new treatments are tested.
He also researches the underlying problems in both these conditions and have been very well supported in this research by patients attending the clinics.
The bronchiectasis clinic is the largest in the North.
He is National Specialty lead for Respiratory group of the National Institute for Health research

- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (smokers lung/ chronic bronchitis/ emphysema)
- Bronchiectasis (recurrent lung / chest infections)
- Clinical trials and research into the above
