Dr Aaron Wetten qualified from Newcastle University in 2010 and joined the team as a consultant liver specialist in 2024. He undertook his specialist training in the North-east, including 2 years at the Freeman hospital as a clinical research fellow in autoimmune liver disease and a year at the Freeman as a post-CCT fellow.
Dr Wetten is the lead for the NHS England Community Liver Health Checks pilot in the north-east and Cumbria region. He also leads a monthly liver MDT for the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Aaron Wetten holds a degree in Computer Science and cybernetics and is keen to integrate technology into the NHS and develop innovative solutions to improve the care we deliver.
Research
Dr Wetten’s research interests include autoimmune liver disease, particularly in Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC). In 2024 he completed his MD in understanding the pathophysiology of symptoms in PBC.
