Biography
I am a Consultant in respiratory medicine & lung transplantation. I undertook my higher specialist training in Respiratory & Internal Medicine in 2006 within the East of Scotland Training Programme. I was awarded my academic MD degree in 2011 by the University of Dundee for my work in asthma and airway inflammation.
Lung bioavailability, aerosol lung deposition of inhaled corticosteroids, bronchodilators and therapeutics of the unified airway were some of my research areas. I was awarded the prestigious Scadding Morriston Davies Joint Higher respiratory fellowship award in 2009. This funded my advanced bronchoscopy and Interventional Bronchoscopy fellowship under Professor Lutz Freitag in Germany. In addition, I have been awarded a Master’s degree in Pulmonary Vascular diseases by the University of Bologna in Italy in 2012.
I came to Newcastle initially to train further in lung transplantation & pulmonary hypertension in 2009. This had a lasting impact on me as I was soon appointed as a senior national research fellow in pulmonary vascular diseases. My research interest at that time was on liver related pulmonary hypertension (Porto-Pulmonary hypertension). Subsequently, I was appointed to a consultant position at City Hospitals Sunderland. I continued my PH sessions at the Freeman, before returning to India on a sabbatical.
On my return back to the Freeman, I was appointed as a consultant in respiratory medicine, pulmonary vascular diseases & lung transplantation.
My area of expertise is in the management of:
- advanced lung disease
- lung transplantation
- pulmonary hypertension
- endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)
- complex interventional bronchoscopy.
