Ward 8b is a nurse-led Day Unit for children and young people, undergoing a general anaesthetic for a wide range of treatments.
Children who attend the ward for the day usually require surgery in either ophthalmology, general surgery, urology or dental services. Most patients are discharged a few hours after their procedure.
The ward works closely with other departments such as neonatology, paediatric intensive care, oncology, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine, endocrinology and general paediatrics.
We work with other children’s services specialities, including plastic surgery and orthopaedics. We also care for children requiring routine outpatient investigations.
