Hello, my name is Joicy Jose. I work as a Digital Health Nurse Specialist in Newcastle Hospitals.
Digital technology is ubiquitous within almost everyone’s life. My key role is to empower and support clinical staff to deliver the best patient care by enhancing the human touch through technology.
I completed my Nursing & Midwifery Degree in India and started my NHS career in England in 2005 when I joined the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.
Since this time I’ve experienced various specialities and have enjoyed working in different roles such as Nursing Tutor, Family Liaison Officer and Palliative Care Lead.
My digital journey
I then got the opportunity to take part in the progressive Electronic Patient Record (EPR) programme roll-out with Nerve Centre and JAC System which sparked an interest in me to join the Digital Health Team.
This has allowed me to realise how digital health has helped to develop the practice of nursing and patient care.
I deeply believe that everything I do is about trying to improve lives of both patients and the health care professionals.
I work four days a week with the Digital Health Team and on the fifth day I work in the Dialysis Unit at the Freeman Hospital which helps me to understand the opportunities that might make the biggest difference to patient care as well as refining my own clinical skills.
I also have another role in the Trust as board member in the Newcastle Hospitals NMAHP Researcher Development Institute Leadership Board which allows me to partake in the innovations and improvements of the health care industry across NUTH.
To enhance my digital learning, I have signed up to the Shuri Network Digital Fellowship programme with NHS England which offers a diverse range of exciting opportunities.
