Professor Malik Siddique has been a foot and ankle surgeon at the Freeman Hospital since 2000 – a pioneering surgeon known not only for his surgical expertise but also as the ‘best dressed man in our trust!’
Malik’s pioneering work has been recognised nationally – making the Freeman Hospital one of the top tertiary centres of excellence for ankle replacement in the UK.
In episode one Malik performs ankle replacement surgery on 25-year-old Louisa who has been a patient of his for almost 12 years. She was diagnosed with juvenile inflammatory arthritis when she was 6.
What made you get into this area of work?
There was a lack of foot and ankle specialists, and we can provide excellent relief of pain after ankle joint replacement.
What is your favourite part of your work?
Ankle replacement for patients with severe cases of arthritis.
What would you say to someone who is interested in progressing a similar career?
It’s an excellent choice – it will occupy your whole life.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to go to the gym and keep fit – as well as inventing new surgical techniques and implants!
