27-year-old Lauren is at the maternity unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary with her partner of just over three years – Brad.
Lauren is in to be induced – she’s three weeks ahead of her due date but a scan has revealed low movement. It’s Lauren’s second baby but Brad’s first and they’re being cared for by midwife Titi who expects baby will be here before the end of her shift.
Titi inserts the canula to start the hormones “I think the best thing about being a midwife is to support the women and the families – its such a beautiful but sometimes very scary part of a family’s life” explains Titi.
Titi supports Lauren through her labour – which is progressing well but it’s the first time Brad has been through this process and he’s definitely in the nervous partner category. Titi is there to make sure they’re both ok. Lauren is my patient but also because they come as a couple, making sure that Brad’s alright and he’s fine is also my priority.” Titi continues.
With things well underway her contractions are getting closer together and she feels like it’s time to push. “Induced births are more painful because the body isn’t quite ready to tip itself into labour yet and were forcing it” Says Titi.
A deep breath and a big push and he’ll be here.
He’s here!!
Welcome to the world baby Blake – it’s time for Brad to cut the cord.
At just under 7lbs 12oz and it’s time for him to meet his big brother! A special moment for the family.
