Professor Griffiths is a Consultant Neurologist at the RVIs Neurosciences Centre where he specialises in cognitive disorders: developmental, acquired and degenerative conditions that affect aspects of thinking including memory and language. His cognitive work assesses the effects on thinking of brain insults like head injury and dementia.
He was appointed in 1997. He runs a joint clinic with Neuropsychology to assess patients with cognitive disorders. Patients are referred by consultants in neurology, psychiatry and medicine for second opinions on diagnosis. GP referrals are also seen at this clinic.
Patients often require further cognitive assessment and specialist investigations including MRI and metabolic brain imaging and testing of the cerebrospinal fluid for markers of specific dementia.
