Mr Sandip Nandhra is an honorary consultant vascular surgeon and senior clinical lecturer/fellow at Newcastle University.
He graduated from the Hull-York Medical School in 2008 and went on to complete higher degree (Doctorate of Medical Sciences) in venous disease in 2016. His higher surgical training has been in the Newcastle and the North-East and his post-doctoral research continued in a National Institute of Health Research funded academic clinical lectureship. He achieved his certificate of completion of training in vascular surgery form the Health-Education North-East Surgical board in 2021 when he was then appointed as a Consultant Vascular surgeon. He holds a post-graduate certificate in Vascular Ultrasound and Medical Education.
He delivers an open surgical and endovascular (keyhole) practice. He specialises in the management of venous disease including varicose veins, venous ulceration, deep vein thrombosis and chronic venous disease (including post-thrombotic syndrome).
Research
Mr Nandhra’s research portfolio is broad with several research grants and regular publications. He has research interests in sarcopenia, anaemia, multi-morbidity, and vascular/venous outcomes. He supervises aspiring academic vascular surgeons including clinical lecturer, clinical fellow’s (doctorate), and masters level researchers. He is the past president of the Vascular and Endovascular Research Network and a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain Research Council. He has a strong national profile with multiple national and international presentations.
Teaching
Mr Nandhra is actively involved in Newcastle University research teaching and supervises intercalating medical students, student selected components, masters-level research program and doctorate level study. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
