Hello – my name is Ruth Williams and I am an Improvement Facilitator in the Newcastle Improvement team.
Our role is to support improvement in the Trust.
I have previously worked as a physiotherapist for 18 years, starting my career in Birmingham. I joined the Newcastle Hospitals Trust in 2016 working in Major Trauma Rehabilitation.
Whilst working here I was able to complete an ILM level 5 qualification in Service Development, and an MSc module in Leadership Development.
My journey into NHS Improvement
My first involvement with quality improvement was when I worked in Birmingham, developing a new pathway for fractured neck of femur patients, and this was what initially sparked my interest in QI.
Completing further courses in this area allowed me to undertake further QI projects within Major Trauma to improve the patient experience.
I started to feel like I needed a new challenge within my career, and this led me to apply for a role within the Newcastle Improvement Team.
Why I love my job
I am very new to this role, but I am passionate about improving patient and staff experiences.
I strive for efficiency and obviously the impact that covid has had on the NHS has led to the need for making services and processes more efficient to try and clear the backlog of patients waiting for treatment.
This need also impacts staff in their day-to-day work.
Contact us
I look forward to helping to guide teams through some potentially tough situations and making pathways/services flow more freely and effectively.
