Hello, my name is Corinne Johnson and I am the Lead Midwife for Digital Health at the Newcastle Hospitals.
I joined the team in Newcastle earlier this year from Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust where I supported the rollout of a maternity electronic patient record called BadgerNet – a single, fully integrated record of end to end maternity care.
My role is to lead the implementation of the same system here in Newcastle, supporting and guiding colleagues throughout the development and implementation stages to make sure that there is continuous clinical input from start to finish.
Being able to provide a clinical perspective when introducing and delivering digital systems is vital to its success and I very much hope that the insight and experience I bring will support a smooth transition across Newcastle’s maternity services.
Real time recording
BadgerNet is fully interactive and begins recording the patient experience from the moment they present for maternity care right through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.
It’s a real-time system so as information is being documented, it can be accessed by colleagues at the same time. This includes medical history, pregnancy history, obstetric history, risk factors and any safeguarding information. Plus you can upload associated documentation, access leaflets and more.
BadgerNet will also allow patients to access information in their record so that they can be involved in the decision-making process through their unique personal care and birth plan and also receive electronic appointment reminders.
All in all it provides a wealth of benefits for both our patients and our staff and will further enhance the quality of care we deliver in Newcastle.
Allison Deagle, Matron, Digital Health Team, added: “It is vital to have a clinical perspective in digital projects so Corinne’s insight and experience will be absolutely invaluable.
“This is a great example of the important role played by digital transformation projects like these.”
