All children and families are entitled to a universal service. The level of support offered is assessed on each individual families health, development and social need.
This may be delivered in partnership with other agencies as our service works within Children and Families Newcastle, a part of Collaborative Newcastle. This is an innovative new partnership which aims to transform the health, wealth and wellbeing of everyone in the City.
The health visiting and school health service is an integrated service made up of locality teams of Health Visitors, Public Health School Nurses, community staff nurses, Nursery Nurses, school health workers and Nursing Associates.
The teams work with families and other agencies to promote optimum health and wellbeing using The Health Child Programme (Department of Health, 2009). This includes developmental reviews, providing evidenced based health information and guidance to support all areas of parenting and promoting healthy choices from the pre-natal stage until the age of 19 and provides early intervention support to those children, young people and families that need it.
