How can I be referred into the service?
Your GP can refer you into the service, or another hospital may refer you into the service if they are not able to treat you.
What should I expect from my appointment?
Retinal examination always requires dilating drops which will blur your vision to a greater or lesser extent depending on your age, and last for around four hours. We advise that you do not plan to drive yourself home after you appointment.
You may have retinal imaging, a pre-operative assessment, or other tests on the day. Therefore, please allow at least two hours, especially for your first visit. For treatment for urgent, sight-threatening problems and for issues that cannot wait for a routine appointment with your GP, you can come directly to our dedicated A&E department
