Ian completed his surgical training in 2019 and after undertaking some additional specialist training in Toronto before joining Newcastle Hospitals in August 2020.
As a consultant neurosurgeon Ian manages disorders of the nervous system with surgery and has specialist interests in pituitary surgery and paediatric neurosurgery.
What made you get into this area of medicine?
I enjoy the practical aspects of management and the variability this area of medicine offers.
What is your favourite part of your work?
My favourite part of my work is having the chance to work with great colleagues to make a positive impact on the lives of our patients.
What do you do in your spare time?
Outside of work I enjoy running to unwind and keep fit and I’m a regular Parkrunner.
What would you say to someone who is interested in progressing a similar career?
It’s a great career and a privilege to do what we do – it’s not without its challenges though!
