Coming for an appointment
You might come to us if you are referred by a healthcare professional for review or assessment of your special seating needs.
We will review your existing equipment (if you have any) and carry out a full assessment of your seating requirements.
If any equipment needs to be ordered after your appointment, we will let you know how long you will be expected to wait for it.
Who will I be assessed by?
You will be assessed by:
Occupational therapists
They assess your body’s current level of function when using a wheelchair. We look specifically at your posture, pressure care and comfort in the wheelchair.
Rehabilitation engineers
They look at the specific type of wheelchair you need, and any special modifications you might need. The engineer offers technical advice to the therapist.
Seating specialists
They give advice on different types of seating available that will meet your needs, and make recommendations for you.
How long will the appointment last?
Patients are given one hour for appointments.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
If you have been for a previous appointment, please bring your current seating equipment we provided (if any).
If this is a first appointment, please come in the wheelchair you are currently using (if any).
If you are hoisted for transfers please bring your sling with you.
Who should come to the appointment with me?
You are welcome to bring one person with you to your appointment but please check for any Coronavirus related requirements or restrictions in the centre before coming in.
If there are other professionals involved in your care, we advise that you tell them about the appointment in case they have important information about your posture or wheelchair needs.
We will invite the person who referred you to the appointment if they have asked to be informed.
