“Medicine adds days to life, occupational therapy adds life to days” Unknown
Our team works to promote and encourage children and parents to participate in tailored and structured activities to maximise their abilities and quality of life, both while they are in hospital and in the longer term.
We also play a key role in supporting a safe and sustainable discharge from hospital and work with colleagues to support children on the following wards:
- Ward 1a (renal)
- Ward 1b (neuro)
- Ward 2a (respiratory)
- Ward 3 (bone marrow transplant)
- Ward 4 (oncology)
- Ward 9 (surgery)
- Ward 10 (orthopaedics)
- Ward 23 (cardio) at the Freeman
- Ward 35 (neonatal intensive care and special care baby unit)
- Regional outpatient services (rheumatology and neurodisability).
We are working on new initiatives to nurture sensory development during long-term hospital stays and to support those children and young people who have sensory differences when they come to our hospitals.
Our aim is to reduce long term health, education and mental health implications and to improve the experience of patients and families.
