Elections to our Council of Governors will take place later in the summer but now is the time to make sure your information is up to date so you do not miss your chance to vote or stand in the election.
There are four staff governor seats up for election, as well as seats across all three public constituencies:
- Newcastle upon Tyne
- Northumberland, Tyne and Wear (excluding Newcastle); and
- North East (to include the rest of England).
Staff seats are available in the following classes:
- Admin & clerical, managerial & chaplains
- Ancillary & estates
- Nursing & midwifery and related; and
- Volunteers.
Our Governors play a key role in making the Trust publicly accountable for the services it provides. By joining the Council, you will represent the views of your staff class/constituency, have the opportunity to review Trust performance, and contribute further to the achievement of the Trust’s vision and values. The Council also appoints the Trust Chair and Non-Executive Directors and is required to approve the appointment of the Chief Executive.
The initial term of office for Governors is up to 3 years, with formal Governor meetings held bimonthly. Meetings are attended by the Chief Executive, the Chairman, and members of the Board. Further information on the role of Governors can be found here.
To stand as a Governor, you must first be a member of our Foundation Trust. If you aren’t already a member, you can sign up here.
It’s an exciting time to be joining the Trust as a member as we look to review how we engage with our membership as we emerge from the pandemic. We are also really keen to ensure that our membership is representative of both the population we serve, as well as our employees.
Work is underway to ensure the information held in the membership database is as up to date as possible, particularly for the staff election, which will take place online for the first time. All existing members are encouraged to get in touch with [email protected] to double check their contact details are correct so they don’t miss out on voting or standing in the election.
If you would like to find out more about what’s involved in the Governor role, please contact Fay Darville, Deputy Trust Secretary, via email [email protected] for an informal chat.
