Professor Grainne Gorman is a Consultant Neurologist and Professor of Neurology at the RVI’s Neurosciences Centre. She has a particular interest in primary mitochondrial diseases and is Director of the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research, at Newcastle University.
Professor Gorman is Director of the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research at Newcastle University – an internationally renowned centre of excellence in mitochondrial disease – as well as the Neuromuscular Theme Lead within the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre.
She qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), in 1997 and completed three years of general medical training in Dublin, Ireland. After completion of specialist training, Professor Gorman moved to Newcastle to further her interest in neuromuscular diseases.
