Newcastle’s adult critical care services are provided at the Freeman Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) within specialist areas known as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU).
We provide expert care for multiple patient conditions including:
- major trauma, burns, neurosciences, transplantation, haematology,
- gastrointestinal surgery, cardiac and thoracic surgery,
- liver disease, obstetrics, major surgery and acute medicine.
We are a dynamic multi-disciplinary team working closely together to produce positive outcomes for our patients.
As a tertiary referral teaching hospital we have strong links to Newcastle Medical School and are actively involved in Academic Research within Critical Care.
