Mr Bob Slight is a Consultant in General Thoracic Surgery at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital with special interests in minimally invasive lung surgery, lung cancer surgery, chest wall deformities, pectus correction and interventional bronchoscopy.
Mr Slight was educated at the University of Aberdeen, completing his undergraduate qualifications in 1996. Surgically he was trained in centres in Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Adelaide (Australia) and Newcastle.
He was appointed as a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital in 2018, and he is also based at Newcastle University’s Population Health Sciences Institute.
Mr Slight is a member of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland.
Research
Mr Slight is an active academic with the role of Associate Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University. His specific interests are in artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, multi-morbidity, surgical safety and population health. He supervises a number of PhD students in these areas and publishes on a regular basis.
