John Hammond is originally from Belfast. He graduated from the University Of Nottingham in 2000 and continued his basic and higher surgical training in Nottingham until 2013.
During that time he was awarded Royal College of Surgeons of England, Wellcome Trust and IHPBA Kenneth Warren Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowships and was a National Institute of Health Research Clinical Lecturer.
He has undertaken research fellowships in Pittsburgh and Norway and completed an HPB and transplantation fellowship in Leeds. He has been a consultant in HPB, sarcoma and transplantation surgery in Newcastle since October 2015. He is the former cancer and clinical research lead for HPB surgery.
