Dr Joanne Lewis is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Freeman Hospital’s Northern Centre for Cancer Care specialising in adult and children’s neuro-oncology (brain cancer), paediatric radiotherapy, haemato-oncology (blood cancers), pituitary tumours, stereotactic radiosurgery for the central nervous system.
Dr Lewis trained at Newcastle University and commenced her oncology training in 1993. She was appointed as Consultant at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) in 2001 where her special interests are in neuro-oncology, paediatric radiotherapy , stereotactic radiosurgery and haematological malignancy.
Dr Lewis leads a number of clinical trials in her areas of interest based at Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Clinical Trials Centre, and she is actively involved in mentoring and teaching for oncology trainees.
She is Chair of the Neuro-science MDT and Neuro-oncology Network MDT for brain tumours.
Thanks to generosity of local charities we are now able to offer local patients stereotactic radiosurgery to brain tumours (primary and secondary) at NCCC. This is a special interest area and we hope to expand this service in the next 5 years.
Dr Lewis is a member of the European Research Group for Brain Tumours, British Neuro-oncology Society , Royal College Radiologists and CCLG.
